PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello Everyone,

I realize that this newsletter is a wee bit late, but we have been busy learning the webpage procedures so that we can care for it ourselves as opposed to paying someone to do it and being irritated that they would not do it as quickly as we would like. If you haven’t seen it then, please, look as it is really very good. Thanks, David for all your hard work. We do need someone else to learn how to do it so that when we are gone there will be a back-up in place. The council voted to maintain it ourselves so that’s what we are doing but, again, it can’t be a “one or two person” show. Put your hand up and learn how and you might learn a new skill which can be used in other areas as well.

We finished the renovations on our house which has taken six months and has kept us very busy with painting, moving furniture and in general rearranging the dining room, kitchen and living (lounge) room. I was pleased to show it to everyone at the 4th of July function.

I have been very busy as the federal president visiting the other divisions in the Gold Coast, Darwin and Melbourne and went to Canberra for the Embassy 4th of July party as well. We, also, saw Cecelia Coleman from the consulate for dinner while in Melbourne. David and I drove to Canberra and Melbourne and on the day following our return held a big Texas BBQ to celebrate the 4th of July at our house this year. It was lovely to see as good a turn out as we had at Charles’ place last year.

Our monthly Meet and Greets are growing. It is always fun to see everyone and catch up as well as meet new people. It seems that we are choosing to stay at the Naval Military and Air Force Club. We are trying to find speakers for a short talk, film or just general information between the drinks and dinner and the club works well for this. Plus, it is central for most people, a good atmosphere as well as good service and the parking is not a problem. If you have a friend invite them along. It’s not a private function and the whole point is to Meet and Greet each other and new people as well.

I have purchased information cards to give to people who ask, or to whom you have spoken, about the association. Everyone will get a few to give to these people so the information about AAA can be shared and they will know that they are invited to attend.

Mark your calendars for all the functions planned in the next few months, Meet and Greets (3rd Thursdays), Federal Conference (Sept 8,9,10), SA’s AGM (23 Sept) and Thanksgiving. David and I will be in Ireland for the month of August so someone else will be the host for the M&G and I will be gone in November visiting my daughter in Houston.

Hoping to see all of you soon,
Cheers,
Dana K Stoba (DeDe)
